How to use your “welcome email”

Email is a great way to build relationships with your customers and an acknowledgement from you at the start of the process is a great way to begin. If a person has signed up for your email newsletters they obviously have interest in your company and what you have to say ~ thank them for it.

Statistically “welcome emails” secure a 50% open rate yet only 58% of companies greet these new subscribers with a welcome message. By not sending a welcome email, you’re company is missing out on a key part of the email marketing strategy. To streamline the process, set up an automated welcome series if you are unable to answer each one personally.

Be sure your welcome messages connect with your audience, captures their interest and sets expectations for future communication from your company.

In addition to above, your welcome message can include coupons, provide links to your company’s social media sites and a confirmation link to your email to help pave the way for a long term relationship with your customers.

How to use LinkedIn for B2B selling

You probably do have a company page on LinkedIn, but how often are you using it?  This is not a case where just because you build it, they will come.   Here are some ways to keep it active:

1)    Make sure all your blog posts, new content posts and PR pieces are automatically fed to your LinkedIn company page.  You can use tools such as Hootsuite to streamline this process by having all your social media outlets connected.

2)    Get your sales team involved by posting the content on individual pages.  This tactic will increase your audience as well as the likelihood that your content will be clicked on, shared and replied to.

3)    Join a group.  LinkedIn is a great place to network, learn and promote interesting events.  Start by researching industry related groups locally, regionally and nationally.

4)    Promote gated content – turn your followers into sales leads by promoting gated content.  The act of gating your content is to put it behind a form that converts site visitors into leads. How to Use Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a great free (yes free) tool for analyzing your website traffic.   If you website doesn’t currently have this feature, go to Google.com/analytics and “sign up now” and follow instructions on how to set up.

Once your analytics are set up, now you are ready to get an overview of your website’s performance by log in into Google Analytics and going to Website Profiles to view reports.  At the top of the page is a charge that provides a visual representation of your site traffic over the past month.  You can change the span of time by clicking on the display and adjusting the dates accordingly.

Site usage will give you quick information on how many visits there were to your page (visitors), how many times pages (page views), on average have been viewed, what percentage of users left after viewing only one page of your site (bounce rate), how long user spent on your site (average time on site) and what % of users have not visited your site before (new visits).

The Visitors Overview graphic View Report will give more detailed information about your visitors.  Note that the number is usually lower than the visits statistic because some visitors may visit your site over and over again.

Map Overlay displays what countries your visitors are coming from.  Click View Report to receive in-depth information on where your visitors are coming from.

Traffic Sources overview shows which percentage of users are getting to your site by typing your URL directly into their browser vs using searching engines, referring sites, etc. Click on View Report for details on breakdowns.

Content Overview specifies the top five most viewed pages over the time period you are looking at.  You can click on the name of the page to get details information about where the people viewing that page came from, how long they spend on the page and how many were new visitors.  View Report gives you the performance of all pages on the site.

The above is just the basics, but they are a good starting point for you to learn about your website’s performance.

Six Ways to Improve your Google Search Results

Every business wants to rank high on the Google Search.  How can you ensure your business gets ranked favorably?  Follow these steps:

1)    Website – make sure your business name is in the domain name….www.yourbusinessname.com.   The business name should be mentioned on the homepage in words, not just your logo, since Google cannot read images.   Your business name should also appear in the title tag of your website and in the meta description.

2)    About us page – include your business name on this page so Google can associate your business with a particular service and/or product keyword.  You should go ahead and write a 400 word description of your business which you can use for other listings as well.  You might learn something about yourself in the process!

3)    Contact us page – have a separate page for “contact us” where you again state the name of your company, as well as the address and contact information.  This allows Google to properly match up your website with business directory listings.  Very important since most people are using their smart phones to look up company addresses and phone numbers.

4)    Google Places – claim your page and update the information so it matches the information on your website.

5)    Facebook Fan Page – make sure your user page matches the name of your business (facebook.com/your business name) and all your contact information is included.
