We all know the power of social media but if you are overwhelmed with trying to figure how to get started, let me give you some helpful steps:

1)    Start with the biggest social networks ~ Twitter and Facebook.  Concentrate your efforts on these two established and trusted platforms.  I promise they will still exist that they will still exist by the time you get the hang of them….unlike some others

2)    Give social media equal billing to your other marketing efforts.  Make sure you include the Facebook and Twitter icon on your marketing materials and even on your email signature page so customers can follow and become fans.

3)    Invite customers to participate – invite customers to share their experiences and offer feedback on your Twitter and Facebook pages

4)    Use social media for research – social media is a great way to gather consumer information, read consumer reviews, and see what your competition is doing

5)    Develop your social voice – don’t use social media for just promoting your business or service.  Instead, use it to share useful information about your industry or your community as well as your services and products.

6)    Use it or lose it baby– to be effective, you need to plan on posting on a regular basis otherwise people will forget about you, quickly

Think of your use of social media as a work in progress ~ you’ll get better with time and consistency, I promise.  As you develop your social media presence with relevant and topical information, you’ll grow more competent.   Now start posting!
